Typhoon Wipha packing winds of 45 meters per second has slammed into Cangnan County, Wenzhou of east China's Zhejiang Province.
Earlier, fears the typhoon would hit Shanghai had triggered mass evacuations and disrupted the women's World Cup, state media said.
Typhoon Wipha made landfall at 2:30 am local time (1830 GMT Tuesday) in Zhejiang province, where more than 1.8 million people had evacuated their homes.
